Children willingly believe in magic, and we as parents are happy to support their belief. Not long ago I had a dream of making butterfly wings of natural materials that grow in the courtyard and are always at hand for my daughter. The process turned out to be easy and the result of it was cheerful for my small fairy and for all our family, so I have to share this idea with others)
For making natural fairy butterfly wings you need:
1. Tree branches – 5 pcs. Their length is about 25 – 27 inch. I took aspen, but you can find other tree species. You should choose that one which is flexible and unbreakable.
2. Leaves (it would be better to choose the large or the small ones, but they should be on a branch), flowers or other herbs that may be used to decorate the wings.
3. A string.
4. Cotton rope/lace/satin ribbons that are necessary to make straps.
5. A pruner.
6. Scissors.
Step 1. Cut the leaves and the small branches with the help of a pruner.
Step 2. Fold the branches in half and form a loop, try to do it carefully, the branches should not be broken. Wrap the ends.
Step 3. Tie the wings round with the string. You need about 80 inch of the string. Firstly, tie the string at the end of the loop (where it is crossed). Then tie the wings round making 2 turns on each side, try to pay attention to string, it should hold firmly. When you stop at the top of the wing, make 2 turns and pull the string down, where branches are crossed. Tie the string firmly. You should have the rest of the string, do not cut it, you will use it.
Step 4. Fasten the wings to the frame. To make the frame, take a branch and fold it in half. Fasten the wings to this branch with the help of the string. Fasten all 4 wings the same way and cut the string.
Step 5. Make the straps. It would be better to use a large rope, a satin ribbon, a cotton rope. To calculate the length of the rope, try the wings on your child. Tie the rope on the wings.
Step 6. Decorate the wings. You may do everything you want using leaves, flowers, herbs etc.
That’s all! Your fairy wings are ready! Create, make and joy a lot)
